Since I first started driving I have always wanted to go on a road trip. Not just a weekend camping in the lakes but a proper road trip abroad.
So, after 6 months of planning I finally set off on Friday the 19th of September.
The Plan.
We had a few things to tick off on the trip. Drive around the Nurburgring was the main one as well as see one of the famous mountain passes in Switzerland and see how fast we could go on an autobahn.
The ferry was departing at 4.50PM from South Shields. I’ve sailed the Holland crossing 3 times in the past (My 7th time in Amsterdam!) and it was probably the best crossing i had been on. The atmosphere on the boat was brilliant. There was groups of stags and hens which made it a better place to be. We didnt plan on drinking and partying until 1AM especially when we had to drive the next morning but sometimes good times cant be planned.
Driving off the ferry in Rotterdam was an experience in itself. I had drove on the wrong right hand side of the road before in a right hand drive car, but never in a left hand drive car. It didnt take to long to get used to either. It only caught me out once or twice before i realised i was driving on the wrong side of the road.
Camping was a first in Amsterdam. Normally a hostel or hotel are my accommodation choices but as this was a camping trip (Also helped that our tent was the size of a hotel) it made sense to pick the biggest party camp site in Amsterdam.
