Force Mango Update

Sure, Mango has started rolling out today, but only 10% of eligible customers are actually scheduled to receive the update on day one. The entire process may take up to four weeks. That鈥檚 practically a month. I don鈥檛 know about you, but my go-go lifestyle doesn鈥檛 allow for that kind of waiting.

Thankfully there is a solution. No, I don鈥檛 mean to bury yourself under the snow and ask a friend to thaw you out after four weeks are up. That could totally backfire! Instead, why not trick Zune into giving you the update right away? The process has worked our staff and many of our readers, even European ones.

Before we begin, keep in mind that a total of three updates must be installed on the path to Mango: 7392, 7403, and 7720, which is Mango itself. The process will take a while. Some people may already have 7392, in which case things will move a bit faster. I also recommend removing any music and unessential apps from the phone beforehand, as that can significantly cut down on the time it takes to backup and restore the phone’s data.

Steps to force a Mango update on phones for which Mango has started rolling out:

1 – Connect your Windows Phone to a PC and launch the Zune software
2 – Click on Phone > Settings > Update. Allow the software to tell you whether an update is available. If so, skip this guide. If not continue to the next step.
3 – Time to force the update. Click another button (any of the options above or below the word Update). Then click the Update button again, and this time disconnect your computer from the internet after 1-2 seconds. Do this by pulling out the Ethernet cable, disabling Wi-Fi, etc. If it says your phone is already up to date, you didn’t disconnect quickly enough and need to try this step again.
4 – Wait 30 seconds or so and Zune should display a notification that an update is available. This is 7392, the first Mango pre-update.
5 – Now reconnect to the internet and continue with the update process through the Zune software.
6 – After 7392 is fully installed, you may receive a notification that another update is available. If so, install it now. If not, proceed to the next step.
7 – If the second update isn’t popping up on its own, repeat steps 3-5, causing the 7403 update to appear.
8 – Install 7403, brave reader. Speeding right along, isn’t it? 馃槈
9 – Mango time! At this point, Zune should automatically start installing the last update, 7720, aka Mango. If it doesn’t happen automatically, force it like we did in previous steps.
10 – This last step is very important! Celebrate your phone鈥檚 new found Mango status by purchasing a mango smoothie at your nearest Smoothie King, Jamba Juice, Baskin Robbins, or similar establishment.

That鈥檚 it! Let us know how this works out for you.

Control, You have a problem…

..and yes we did.

After we had finished off getting the server all set up and online we decided to go to tesco and see if we could get project lium into space.

We bought some balloons from tesco but then found out that they didnt do helium. So we made the decision to venture into teesside park even though we knew it would be busy.

Turned out it wasnt busy at all, but when we went into the card shops we seen the helium canisters that they where selling and they where up for 拢35.

This was way out of budget for a cheapy cheap space mission. We knew that we could get helium canisters off the internet so decided we would order one this week and hopefully carry out the experiment the next time we get the chance. 馃榾

RIP Sutty

Yesterday morning I got a text message off my mam to say my Rabbit had died.

The poor thing was only 18 months old and it didnt really show any signs of dying.

It was fun, and boney, but it has always been like that and the fact it still ate when i fed it bits and bobs and used to bomb it around the garden like a missile.

But thursday night why i was away from home it became week, and she spent 4 hours cuddling the little thing until it went unconcious in the early hours of friday morning then passed away shortly after.

I was devestated when i found out the bad news as would anybody be. The guinea pig (George) will now be alone this winter. I just hope he doesnt take the loss of his mate that badly and fights through.

Here are some pictures of sutty..

Weekend Wonders

Hi guys.

Im going to keep this short and sweet as i have to be up for 6AM as i have an exam tomorrow.

Its been a good weekend for me. Me and my mate went down to visit my aunty and her mate at swainby where they where camping out. We ended up getting quite drunk playing cards and staying over the night.

On saturday morning, we went back to my mates house and decided to make a full english breakfast as we where both starving. Then we had a nice afternoon of coding. See here: Project SMS.

Today (Sunday) i had a nice lay in and did a bit more coding on the above project. I then watched the Singapore F1.

After this i met up with @Cadab and Darren and went for a kick about up Elementis. We left there at about 6 ish as i had an 11 a-side game at St Bede’s in Billingham.

Thats pretty much it. Sorry for the breif-ness.

Sam!

From a thought to reality

Well, it was tuesday last week when i had the idea of the anonymous SMS texting system.

The idea behind it being that a user could sign up, purchase credits, then send a SMS from my website to anyone and make it appear as if it was from anyone.

The requirements i had;
– Easy to navigate site.
– Safe your users details
– A secure log in system
– An SMS provider
– Incorporating paypal to deal with money transactions.

With these ideas in my head i knew how it was going to work and what it was going to do. Alls that i needed was the time to code it and get it up and running.

Wednesday night i got to work on the very basic. I created a MySQL database and created the tables and fields i would need to get the basic site up and running.

I knew i was going to implement the site into the default Bonxy Network theme which is so easy to do using CSS and a simple ‘header’ and ‘footer’ page.

The usersystem, which i love making. I have about 5 different ones from over the years so i took bits and bobs and started to complile them.

I struck a problem when editing the registration system and then i decided to stop and take a break.

Saturday. After a long night of drinking and camping, yes camping in september (We are a bit mad) we drove back to @Cadab’s house hold to make some breakfast.

I took out my laptop and we were both browsing the net. At about 12.00 he decided to come up with a challenge of creating something (APP, program, website) that we could use in roughly 2 hours time.

I couldnt really be arsed with this and decided id just carry on with the SMS program. I did get most of it done and it is very nearly ready to go online. With Paypal integration is where we stuck problems though.

We did manage to battle through it and in the end we came out trumps. Not all that is needed is a few more tweaks on the UI and then the site will be ready to go live.

Ill update more when i can.

Paintballing

Had a mint day paintballing with @Cadab at pointblank.

He went and bought the paint yesterday and decided to try out some better paint to the normal unbranded paint that we usually run with. It cost us 拢5 more than normal but was definatly worth it. You can tell it makes a difference using the good stuff although i did have a few break in my barrel (I have a feeling the barrel may have a slight kink in it 馃檨 ).

We did the normal routene which included missing out on speedball but playing alimo and trenches, followed by lunch then VC.

@Cadab ran with the camera on his gun today (Will get the videos sorted later).

Our first game was Alimo which we started on the attacking team. They where 2-0 down at this point. Continue reading Paintballing
